Understand What Veterans Benefits Are Available to You
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers two major disability benefits programs for veterans: service‐connected disability compensation and non‐service‐connected disability pension. Monthly payments for service-connected disability compensation are provided to veterans if:
1. They were discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable.
2. Their disease or injury was incurred or aggravated in the line of duty.
3. The disability is not a result of their own willful misconduct or abuse of alcohol or drugs.
Veterans found to be entitled to disability compensation receive monthly payments that are based on their disability ratings. With certain severe disabilities, a veteran may be entitled to compensation payments at a rate greater than the 100 percent disability rating.
Non-service-connected disability pension benefits are provided based on a veteran's need. To be eligible for pension benefits, a veteran must have wartime service, low income, and total and permanent disability. The total and permanent disability need not be “connected” to the period of their military service.
We will work with you through the VA disability process to obtain VA disability benefits. You can rest assured knowing that an experienced, knowledgeable disability benefits attorney is personally handling your claim at all times.
Seek Other Military Benefits When Possible
Aside from disability benefits, the VA provides several other benefits to veterans and servicemembers, including:
- Life insurance
- Employment assistance
- Educational training
If you believe you are eligible for any of these benefits, reach out to our firm. We will help you understand the benefits you are seeking.
